Game maker Naughty Dog today released a free-to-play multiplayer version of its popular PlayStation 3 third-person shooter Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.

The company has been teasing its secret for months, revealing today on its blog that the world of Uncharted multiplayer is now open to everyone. The free version will launch tomorrow in Europe.

Tipping more than 3.5 million people who have played more than 37 million matches of Uncharted 3 since its debut in 2009, Naughty Dog's Eric Monacelli said that the free download is available in the PlayStation store, and users 'can hop online and play for as long as you want, as much as you want,' up to level 15.

With each conquered level, gamers collect extra content, but the perks end at level 15; continue to play without a cent and stop earning unlocks, or shell out some money to increase the level cap or have it removed altogether.

'If you choose not to unlock the level cap or purchase anything you'll be missing out on a slew of cool in-game items and downloadable content we have made for the game to date,' Monacelli said. Content includes a split screen, co-op arena ($9.99), co-op adventure ($11.99), level cap removed ($19.99), single-player experience, and DLC map packs, according to sample pricing provided to GamesBeat.

Long-time Uncharted fans and multiplayer participants won't be left out of the company's promotion, though. Next time you log in online, a custom Naughty Dog Paw will appear on the rank icon; click on it, and you will receive the Naughty Dog Paw shirt for your custom characters.

There is more Uncharted content on its way: Over the coming months, more than 40 additional DLC items will become available, each with a different theme, to be unveiled on the Naughty Dog blog, PlayStation blog, and the free-to-play webpage.
